DEERINGTON 2 APP

Character Base

• Character Name: Stanley Pines
• Age: Early 60s, same age as Ford.
• Canon (Date/Year Released)/Canon Point: Gravity Falls (2012) | Post-canon
• Items Coming Along:
  1. MURDER HUT: Stan's place of business in Deerington! Because Trench needs a questionable tourist trap, right? This includes all costumes, merchandise, and exhibits within - though mysteriously all his tools will be missing and will have to start from scratch for anything new. Also, parts of it are still busted from that time he got killed by a sand worm.
  2. BRASS KNUCKLES: Just his ones from home. He's got better weapons now, but sentimental value and all that.
  3. CIGAR BOX WITH ~15 PHOTOS FROM HOME: Functions as an emergency memory loss kit - does not work on event-specific or setting specific causes of amnesia (in other words, if Stan has a memory lapse related to his canon memory loss it will help with that, but if idk some monster bite makes you forget who you are it won't work. It's functionally more of a comfort item.)
  4. THE RED HERRING: Technically part of his Mr. Mystery costume, but being listed separately because it's a weapon. It's a cane with a bird skull for a handle, but with a flick of a wrist it reveals a concealed gun. Made by Ruby.
  5. GOLD POCKET WATCH: Gift from Fern. "When worn and the timer is set, the user becomes invisible for up to 30 minutes."
  6. LEATHER BRACELET: Gift from Ford, made of leather straps and cords, silver latches, moonstone beads, and unicorn hair. "The bracelet will allow Stan to summon a single photograph from the box of them he keeps at home. The photograph is chosen randomly; only photos stored in the box can be summoned; and the bracelet only carries one charge, which will be replenished on the next full, new, or half moon." Almost never takes it off.
  7. CHARRED HUNTER SET: Obtained in Oct 2020 event - Fire-Resistant clothing. A little blood-stained but that just gives it character.
  8. BONA LISA: Technically a Murder Hut exhibit but since she's more of a pet she's getting listed separately. She is one of the floral skeleton rats from the Feb. 2021 event. Don't let her bite you.

Content Warnings for Character: Amnesia, Parental abuse/abandonment/neglect, extreme poverty, homelessness, prison, Gravity Falls spoilers, taxidermy, CRAU info mentions a child inflicting serious self harm to their eye.

Original Deerington Application

• Link to Accepted Deerington Application: Here.
• Additional Adjustments to include:
  • Stan had the misfortune of arriving in Deerington during October! His twin brother Ford and his great nephew Dipper were both already there and feeling the full effects of Deerington-induced insomnia. This meant that Stan was immediately thrown into a caretaker role for two people who were only growing more and more paranoid. He ran on autopilot without sleeping for days, on the grounds that technically he had still slept more than they had. He went on supply runs, cooked all the food, kept Dipper out of the silverware drawer when he started trying to stab himself with forks. Then, Dipper nearly died by stabbing himself in the eye - thankfully, he only lost his sight in that eye, but it was still a closer call than Stan would have liked. He kept up taking care of everyone and trying to hold everything together until the stress broke him. He literally began to dissolve into ink, and if his family had not pulled him back, he would have become a monster - this form will be reflected in corruption for Stan, should it ever come up.

  • After that, it became a lot more apparent to the Pines family that they HAVE to take care of themselves and each other, and they HAVE to let each other help whether they want to or not - and it's a lesson Stan carries throughout his time in Deerington. He also picks up the habit of touching his family on or near their anchor tattoos as a reassuring gesture.

  • He started collecting cones after this and began plotting the Murder Hut as a way to earn money and something to do for work. He built some pretty terrible and amazing skeleton things, and spent Nov - Jan getting ready to open up shop. Things got derailed in December by some amnesia-heavy events that rattled Stan a great deal and the appearance of Bill Cipher, world's worst triangle. He trapped the Pines family in a deal (one that Stan never would have agreed to if Ford hadn't to try and save his life) that effectively created a truce while they attempted some kind of portal to get the hell out of this collapsing dream.

  • During the hotel shenanigans, Stan became a ghost at his own funeral, where his father was present and predictably unimpressed. Ford and Dipper learned not only the extent of Filbrick's cruelty towards Stan, but they both got to see how Stan reacted once it was over - he backpedaled and tried to make excuses about why he deserved that treatment. Dipper, being a smart kid, did not let this slide. He made them all talk it out, and it was one of the hardest conversations Stan has ever had.

  • Stan mostly stayed out of the portal shenanigans, which is something he came to deeply regret. Both Ford and Dipper wound up dying because of it - and Dipper in particular died in his arms, far too hurt for Stan to do anything but hold him close while he passed on. He spent the entire week they were dead in a haze, alone in their house. Thankfully he had a number of guests check on him and make sure he was holding up okay and forcing their kindness and food on him. At the same time, the house was becoming overgrown with eye flowers, and Stan couldn't bring himself to get rid of them all - not once he learned they pull people into memories.

  • In those eye flowers, he came to an important realization - that gaps in his memories are represented literally by light blue flames that obscure the parts that are gone forever. Stan realized that this was essentially brain damage, and actually opened up to Ford and told him about it - a sign that he's grown since the funeral incident and starting to actually trust people more with conversations like that. Previously he would have kept it to himself and tried to shrug it off and insist it isn't that bad. Not long after this, Bill vanished and Mabel appeared, completing the Pines family!

  • In the Lab, the orderlies tried to use his Amnesia against him, but he's put so much effort into regaining his memories that he knew instantly it was a sham - and was one of the only people he knew to not be fooled by the lab at all, which helped him break people out and talk them down. It was the first time, aside from the initial memory loss incident where it saved the world, that his amnesia had ultimately been an asset.

  • And then April was the worst. First he got kidnapped, bound by magic burning ropes, and locked in the trunk of a car, which set off a panic attack for reasons Stan couldn't begin to understand (triggered from something he lost in the memory gun fire - the mind forgets, but the body remembers). Thankfully, Ford was able to save him and talk him down, but not before he struggled so much against the ropes it left scars. Continuing his journey of letting people actually help him, he even let Ford attend to his wounds instead of insisting he was fine. Then later in the month, a woman came to the Murder Hut looking for Ford, yelling at the top of her lungs. Stan decided not to correct her, so she would not seek Ford out. This drew the attention of one of the monster worms that had been tunneling around the city, and led to Stan's first death.

  • After a brief forced bit of bed rest to recover from Death Flu, Stan proceeded to help Dipper bury his alternate older waste self's body and help Ford talk out his relationship problems with the help of some alcohol, because life in Deerington just doesn't stop. There wasn't much time for him to breathe after that before they had to cast judgements on some very strange eggs. Stan's votes, after his NPC interactions, were to sacrifice the Mayor and Sodder, and to awaken everyone else. After some persuasion, the entire Pines family agreed to awaken their own eggs together (and all were placed beneath the family Plaidypus for warmth). Their actions, combined with the actions of the rest of the town, led to the Flesh Door opening, which was not ideal for Stan, who as previously mentioned does NOT like small tight spaces like the opening to that particular sinkhole. But ultimately, wherever they go they go together, and the whole family went through the door chanting PINES! PINES! PINES!

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers: So I went a little overboard on this section in the original app because I wasn't sure at the time if I had to count his physical abilities and skills along with supernatural things. With that in mind, he does not have canon superpowers and is considered a regular human by his world's standards. The only one that still applies is lucid dreaming, which for game purposes is not the same as paleblood dream walking powers. All it means for him is that he can manipulate the content of his own dreams/mindscape per his canon's rules (see previous app) and that he can be lucid and present if someone else enters his dreams. Mostly this will be used to mess with people who try and sneak in his dreams without permission. It's treated as a skill that can be developed by anyone rather than a supernatural power.
• Blood Type: Cold-blooded!
• Omen: A seagull! Her name is Pollux and she is his dream guide from Deerington. He really bonded to her when they were merged together in December, and now she'll be out more often than not. She has a lot of Stan's sharpness and cleverness, but is a little more mature than he is (though, she isn't above trying to steal your french fries).
• Blessed Day: June 15th - his and Ford's birthday.
• Patron Pthumerian: Remina, patron Pthumerian of History. Stan's canonically (by Word of God) an atheist, but it will help that she clearly does actually exist. He won't exactly consider it worship (he was never any good at that anyway), but he'll likely have a unique relationship to them - he isn't the typical academic who would go to her, but he is an amnesiac whose memories are canonically only able to be restored by visual representations of them.
• Blood Power Manifestation:
  • FIRE: This is the bulk of Stan's powers - his powers almost never manifest as lightning or ice (unless a coldblood specific event calls for it), but always fire. His personal flames are light blue, almost white. He can easily engulf his entire hand in fire to make a flaming fist, but he will practice other types of control over his fire as well, such as making smaller flames on his fingertips or learning how to shoot the fire out and away from himself.

  • COLD HANDS: Stan's physical changes as a cold blood mean that he will be cold to the touch, even if he can't feel it himself. This will add to his arsenal of Rude Grunkle pranks, because he will be gladly putting his cold hands on his poor family and watching them jump out of their skin.

  • MUNDANE USES: Eventually it will become second-nature to him and it will get incorporated into his everyday life, like reheating his coffee after it goes cold or lighting up his fingers when he gets up in the middle of the night so he can see. It will become as easy as breathing, at least for the smaller things. Larger displays of his fire will always take a lot out of him and leave him bone tired.

  • OTHER THINGS: He'll also use his powers to add some extra pizazz to his Murder Hut tours, or shoot fire into the sky like a signal flare if he needs to. His understanding of his powers will be that since they show up as fire they come directly from himself and his mind (since as mentioned, any lingering amnesia presents in his brain as blue flames). It will give him a deep personal connection to his powers, and a confidence that if he has an idea for something he can do with fire, he can probably figure out how to make it work - even if it takes some practice.
