[It's always hard to let that mantra go, and Stan doesn't always do a great job at it himself, but they both know what corruption can do and like it or not, Stan's the adult here. He has to look out for him, and this is just part of it now. It was part of it in Deerington, in Trench, and now here.

Why would they run you out? Literally everyone I've met here who knows you can't shut up about what a great kid you are! Y'know what's gonna happen if they find that out about you? They'll look out for you, 'cause they like you. Seriously, you're doing fine for yourself.

He watches carefully as Dipper removes his hat, but bats Dipper's hand away so he can take a better look instead, in case there's anything he could do about it himself. It feels a little like assessing the damage after a kid gets gum stuck in their hair.]
